Creating the perfect country kitchen seem like quite a task for those of us who don’t have an Aga. However, it is possible to create the homely feel of a farmhouse kitchen without splashing thousands on a new-old oven!

A lot of what makes a rustic kitchen is the bare bones, so before you completely gut your old kitchen, take a look at the sink and the work surface. If they’re too modern go ahead and get find somewhere else for them, but keep in mind that they could have potential! For example, a wooden work bench with some bashes and scrapes from years of use brings a lot of character, which is what a rustic kitchen is all about.

Backsplash Tiles

Give your backsplash a personal makeover with some decor tiles. Using neutral tiles such as our Sirocco Decor tiles will create a focal point above your hob or sink, making a gorgeous scene. The Sirocco range also has complementary wall and floor tiles, which will allow you to create a cohesive style that will fit right in with a wooden work surfaces.

This retro metro look works due to the timeless nature of the brick shaped tiles. When placed in the traditional brick pattern they create a look that won’t get dated. Alternatively you could opt for smooth metro tiles, such as our glossy Bevel Brick tile range. These look great with dark grout either laid in a brick pattern or a stacked grid.

Exposed Brick

There’s nothing says “rustic” quite like a bit of exposed brick. Natural Stone Bricks are perfect for those of us whose bricks are lost under various layers of plaster, or they just don’t look authentic enough! Use them for a whole wall, or around the arch of a window or doorway, or even simply just to cover a pillar that juts out into your kitchen. These tiles will add instant character to any home, pair with white grout to bring out the rustic stone colouring. The Wisconsin range are another brick rustic tile, which offer worn design wall tiles with gorgeous matching hexagon floor tiles.

Rich reds and oranges are staple floor colourings in many traditional kitchens. Saltillo Terracotta creates the perfect mediterranean-inspired floor, ready for the high traffic a loved kitchen will experience.

Natural stone is an easy go to for a timeless country kitchen floor, but the options are endless! Using Slate on the floor can create a bold contrast to the rest of your room, while remaining warm and inviting. For a hardwearing, gorgeous yet simple floor tile, choose Quarry Tiles.

If you’re a bit worried about a boldly coloured floor, the alternatives include Wood Effect Tiles and Travertine, both of which will help you create a traditional country feel in your rustic kitchen. Our light coloured Toscano Tiles are designed to be laid in a flagstone pattern, which is a timeless style fantastic for those who want something that looks unique to your kitchen.
