Perfect Patterns: Subway Tile Layout Ideas

Subway, metro, brick – whatever you call them, these tiles are one of the most popular choices for kitchens and bathrooms. Available in a range of colours and designs, subway tiles are easy to lay and look great in both large and small spaces. The layout you choose can make a huge difference to the way your tiles look, so we’ve put together a visual guide to help you decide which is best for you.

Brick effect tiles look great when laid in a traditional brick bond effect, with a 10mm grout joint reminiscent of mortar. Bevelled brick metro tiles are really versatile and can be laid in a range of different patterns. We love the diagonal herringbone design for a really striking splashback.

Grout can also play an important role in the finished look of your tiles, so remember to lay the tiles out with some grout swatches to check you are happy with the look. A contrasting grout makes the layout pop, while a matching grout colour will give a more subtle look.
