Tile grout might seem like a boring necessity of your tiling project, but your choice of grout can fundamentally change the design of your tiled space - so it's important to make sure you select the right one. Tile grout is a dense fluid which then hardens. It is used for fixing your tiles to the wall or floor, then applied further to bond and seal the joints between the tiles. Once it's dry it forms a concrete that keeps the tiles in place and seals the joint.
Different rooms and tile uses require different grouts, for example, it's important to choose a waterproof or mould proof tile grout in the bathroom or kitchen. Chemical and stain resistant grouts are also a good idea for kitchens and wetrooms, where regular cleaning is required. You might want to choose a completely waterproof grout for areas of total immersion like swimming pools, or harder wearing grouts for outdoor uses.
But it's not just practical - tile grout can be an appealing and aesthetically pleasing part of your tiling project. You can use use the joints and space between the tiles to make a bold design statement, using coloured grouts to contrast or elevate your tiles. Alternatively, you can use this to create a subtle accenting of your tiles by using white grout or neutral colours. Ardex and Kerakoll have introduced a range of matching tile grouts and silicones to help you take your interior design even further.
