An essential part of any wet room installation is waterproofing. You can choose to waterproof (tank) the entire room and make it a wet room or just the shower area of a bathroom when using a screen. It is important to ensure that you have a completely watertight layer in a wet area prior to tiling. Waterproofing protects the background from unwanted water damage and leaks and, ultimately, gives you peace of mind.
To effectively waterproof a wet room or bathroom, you'll need to make sure that both the floors and walls are tanked. You'll need products like waterproofing membrane, waterproofing coating, waterproofing matting, primer, and waterproof tape. All of these products are available individually, but general waterproofing kits from brands such as BAL and Ardex are also available.
At The London Tile Co Direct we stock an extensive range of waterproofing products, and if you are looking for more advice on how to tank your wet room or bathroom, check out the waterproofing section of our wet room installation advice page.
